Jonathan Swift

Jonathan Swift was an Anglo-Irish satirist, essayist, poet, and cleric. He was born on November 30, 1667 in Dublin, Ireland. He is regarded as the foremost prose satirist of the English language, and is less well-known for his poetry. His ironic writing style won him a place in the hearts of many. In 1713, he began writing what would become his best-known work. In 1726, at last finished with the manuscript, he travelled to London. His friends anonymously published it as Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World, in Four Parts, also known, more simply as Gulliver’s Travels. An immediate success, the book hasn’t been out of print since its first run.
